Hemp and lime were used in this extension.  The original listed building was cosntructed using timber frame infilled with hazel wattles and clay daub.  The extension is a contemporary interpretation of this tried and tested construction.  It uses a softwood timber frame buried inside a hemp and lime mix.  It is better than zero carbon, airtight, warm and breathable, and above all extremely healthy to live in.
