Floors can be breathable with no membranes. Hemp and lime is being cast into blocks for use in the floor at the Green Light Trust. Drying was speeded up by stacking them outdoors to cure (lime absorbs carbon dioxide to cure - another reason it is so much more sustainable than cement). After 8 weeks, the blocks were laid onto a thin covering of lime and sand inside the building.
